This is the problem I have been facing since the day I became a feminist: How do I hold onto my feminist ideals of equality, choice, and empowerment without falling into the crazy, bra-burning, butch feminist stereotype? Now a days the term "feminist" has become our new "n" word, a derogatory curse aimed at women that are thought to be too extreme in their independence. To others it becomes a word of pride, a beacon of nonconformity to modern gender roles. Then for the rest of us who are caught in the middle, we confess it to close friends followed by a whispered explanation of "our" form of feminism, anything but the extreme kind.
The above quote states my sentiments exactly; Sometimes I want to express my femininity without having to conform to the stereotypes of feminism. I do shave, I wear heels, and I'm an aspiring career woman. I'm generally modest, though I do conform to fashion. Most importantly, I come up with my own opinions rather than taking them from my authority.
But enough about me, the point of a blog is to share with the internet community. My aim is to talk about various women's issues, how it correlates with feminism, and how it affects me personally. Suggestions for topics are welcome, and I appreciate feedback and differentiating ideas. My opinion may be changed and I may change the opinion of others, who knows. Let's see what happens shall we?
